Ms. Janet Jebichii Sego
Overview
Ms. Janet Jebichii Sego is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and currently a PhD Candidate and a research fellow in the Law and Development Research Group, Faculty of Law of the University of Antwerp (Belgium), under the prestigious Research Foundation-Flanders PhD Fellowship. Her doctoral research explores the intersection of development finance, development-induced displacements, and human rights, with a focus on bilateral development finance institutions that support private sector development in the Global South.
Janet holds a Master of Laws in Regional Integration and East African Community Law from the University of Dar es Salaam obtained through the Tanzanian German Centre for East African Legal Studies, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi. She also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
Her research and advisory work span across internal displacement law, international human rights law, environmental and natural resources law, development finance, climate finance, and international development cooperation.
Janet has contributed to international policy processes as part of the researchers on the New Frontiers in International Development Finance (NeF DeF) project based at the University of Warwick (UK) through submissions to the UN Working Group on the Issue of Human Rights and Transnational Corporations and Other Business Enterprises and the 2025 International Conference on Financing for Development.
Janet works at the intersection of law, development, inclusive financing, social justice and rights-based approaches to policy and practice in Africa and beyond.
