2nd Annual Lecture, Promoting Sports Arbitration in Africa

 

Dr. Kariuki Muigua, Africa Trustee, participated as a speaker during the 2nd Annual lecture under the theme ‘Promoting Sports Arbitration in Africa’ organized by Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Kenya Branch, at the Intercontinental Hotel – Nairobi on 28th November 2019.

The forum brought together sports practitioners, arbitrators and institutions promoting the development of sports.

The event was opened by the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and the Arts, Ambassador Amina Mohammed.

Secretary General of the Court of Arbitration for Sports, Matthieu Reeb from Switzerland delivered the key speech.

Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei was among the key speakers at the lecture alongside former Kenya Rugby Union Vice Chairman Alexander Mutai.

Other notable personalities who spoke at the conference were retired rugby player Humphrey Kayange and Catherine Ndereba.

Dr. Kariuki Muigua, supported Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohammed’s remarks that Kenya as a sporting hub can play an important role as a centre for the resolution of sports disputes in the region.

The forum discussed disputes in sports such as those in sporting associations and those arising from misconduct such as doping and how to address them through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

The lecture event was open to legal practitioners in sports, sports-related institutions, corporations supporting sports initiatives, county government departments of sports, sports professionals, alternative dispute practitioners and sports lovers in general.
